Mount Whitehorn from the top of the Top of the World Chair Lift

Wednesday March 15th 2006

Mount Whitehorn is a summit you can visit from the top of the chairlift at the Lake Louise Ski Area.

I've decided to include a few ski summits for good measure. They're easy to get to and if you have a craving for summit views in the middle of winter then these will please.

Mount Whitehorn is a minor named summit just above the Lake Louise Summit Platter.

The actual peak may be further to the north. There seems to be some confusion but it may just be mine. I've provided some images and a map so you can decide for yourself.

I'll be going back so if I am in error I'll have a ridge walk and you'll be happy to know I have to do some work.

This is a portion of the Lake Louise Trail Map. If you click, you'll see that the summit is further back.

This is a topo of the same area. You'll see that it disagrees with the trail map above.

I've included an image from the top of Mount Fairview for comparison. The summit platter is the red line I drew in.

I took a few pictures when I was skiing as well as a move of me skiing down the mountain from top to bottom. I had to rig my camera to poke out of my coat just above the sternum strap of my daypack. The camera was sideways so I'm trying to find an editor to rotate the movie. If I'm successful I post the move.

If you want to see some good ski trail maps of the area and other areas I recommend this site.
